Because the night
Patti Smith

It was march of 1978 when Patti Smith published "Because the night", a rock song lengthed 3:32, written with nontheless than Bruce Springsteen, who previously registered it during the sessions for its album "Darkness on the Edge of Town".
This is another song that hail to the love (not by chance Patti Smith dedicated it to her husband Fred Smith), however the sang love here has a more, say...physical approach.
It could be perceived as a "not-that-much" touchy portrait of lust and passion between two lovers that are sharing the bed.
The song alternates between sensual stanzas, and aggressive refrains (that are pretty much of same note height of stanzas) in which the true passion is claimed.
It is not right to state that the song was written by both, as the song was born in a curious way: while Bruce was recording it (he wrote it) for his album, Patti Smith was working in the sibling studio. When Bruce noticed that the song had no space in the album, he decided to give it to Patti, who edited it to make it suitable for a girl singer. This is the reason for the double author.
